It was a busy day at the Jacklin Nanobrewery (aka Black Dragon Brewery?) today! First project: starting a new batch, an American Red Ale this time.
Grain bag with milled grains: C60, C120, Munich and Chocolate malts:
Grain bag all ready to go...
Grain "tea", ready to begin the boil...
The spent grains...
These are the hops after they've been boiled in the wort (I use a hop bag, like a big tea bag, smaller version of the grain bag)... Two kinds of hops: Magnum for bittering, and Chinook for flavour and aroma...
The wort. Brewers make wort; yeast makes beer...
Starting gravity of 1.050 (at 80 F, so actually 1.051)...
In its cosy alcove with a blow-off tube in place (on Wednesday I'll cap that and add an airlock)...
